Co-Founder and Board Member of ESR and Chairman Emeritus of the Capital Committee
Mr. Charles Alexander de Portes is a Co-Founder and Board Member of ESR and Chairman Emeritus of the Capital Committee.
He was President of the ESR group for 15 years prior and was responsible for overseeing the company’s overall private equity capital raising, operations and business development. ESR operates across Asia, Europe and North America and tops the league rankings of private equity raising in Asia. ESR has more than USD150 billion of AUM and is the largest real estate manager, developer and investor in Asia, with a focus on the new economy.
Charles has over 27 years of private equity and real estate investment experience. He was also the Head of Acquisitions and Capital for Europe and Asia for Prologis from 1998 to 2003. Prior to this, he worked in real estate principal investment at Goldman Sachs following his INSEAD MBA graduation in 1996. He serves on the boards of multiple platforms, from media and entertainment productions to biotechnology. He is an active philanthropist and lead donor to the INSEAD San Francisco Hub for Business Innovation. Charles has led INSEAD Robin Hood fundraising campaigns and serves on the Campaign Board.
Charles was a decorated US Army Captain and graduated from the Johns Hopkins University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy (Dean’s List). He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
