Since 2010 Bart has been on a mission to provide about 125 million low-income African households that currently use kerosene lamps and charge their mobile phone in a kiosk, with affordable electricity through 'Made in Africa' solar home systems.
Prior to becoming a social entrepreneur, for about 20 years Bart was a ‘normal’ entrepreneur, initially buying and turning around distressed companies, and later on developing and selling medical devices. The most successful product was ‘Wartner', a wart removal product. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Bart worked for six years as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in the Netherlands. Bart holds an MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam and from INSEAD (MBA'87).
