With more than 25 years of experience in retail and commercial banking, António Horta-Osório has built an impressive international banking career. Known for his drive, enthusiasm and commitment to customers, Horta-Osório is credited with building strong management teams at Lloyds Banking Group. His leadership has brought significant value to the company and its stakeholders since he was named CEO in 2011 with the UK taxpayer being repaid in full, at a profit.  His public stance on mental health has been widely acclaimed.

Previously, Horta-Osório held senior management roles with Grupo Santander, where he was a Senior Executive Vice President and managed and developed its UK, Brazilian and Portuguese businesses over an 18 year period.  Before that, António also worked for Goldman Sachs and Citibank. He also served as Non-Executive Director of the Court of the Bank of England and Governor of the London Business School. He holds a degree in Management & Business Administration from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and an MBA from INSEAD.

António is currently a non-executive Director of Exor N.V., Sociedade Francisco Manuel dos Santos B.V., Stichting INPAR Management/Enable and Fundação Champalimaud in Portugal.   He serves on the CBI President’s Committee.  In 2018 he was granted the Freedom of the City of London and in 2019 was a recipient of the Foreign Policy Association Medal.  In addition, he has been Chairman of the Wallace Collection since 2015, a Prime Ministerial appointment. The Wallace Collection is one of Europe’s foremost art collections and the greatest private bequest to the nation in Great Britain.
